Fishing Reports

January 3, 2021 Fishing Report

Chaos. That’s how I would describe the past week. With all of the travelers in the area all of the local guides have been extremely busy, and the fishing has typically followed suit. Sheepshead, Pompano, Redfish, Snook, Black Drum, Mangs, Black Sea Bass, Grouper, Jacks, and a pile of trout. The inshore bite’s been crazy. The hardest part has been following them through the 10degree water temperature swing through the past week starting at 58 and working back up to 68 midday yesterday. Get out, fish slow, and buy lots of shrimp.

The tarpon are still here but the focus has definitely switched over to inshore species. The mangrove snapper fishing has been red hot along the jetties in Big Pass. Chum with pilchards and you’ll have the snapper eating at the back of the boat. You’ll also find a few snook and redfish mixed in which will make for an exciting mixed bag. The tidal movement may slow the bite down a little but the outgoing afternoon tides should make for some good snook fishing around the bridges.
